Jumping on PeopleDog products

Do you know many Labs like me? Granted, I am a pretty beautiful lab with nice, rich chocolately fur, but I am like a lot of Labs in one area.   I like to jump on people to say hi.   We all do! We just get so excited; it’s hard to remember how big we are.

I remember when I was just a little puppy dog, and when I came home for the first time, I was a little scared of this new place and people.  They seemed so happy to have me living there and gave me great toys, food, and lots of love.  The first week, I learneZoey Dog Products - Jumpingd to love them so much, and I was so happy when they came back from work and school to see me.  They would rush in the house, and I would bound to greet them.  I just wanted to give them little puppy kisses, but I couldn’t reach their faces, so I stood up on my little puppy toes.  I yipped, and my front paws scratched at their pant legs.  Boy, were they ever happy to pick me up and squeeze me and love on me.

I started to get bigger and older, and I was still so happy to see them when they came home, but they didn’t seem to be as happy to see me.  I would run to greet them and jump up to kiss them.  Now my front paws landed on my owner’s chest, and I may have knocked one of the kids down, but no one was looking.

I began to get more excited to try and get their attention when they came home, but they started yelling at me, and once or twice pushed me off or tried to stick their knee up.  That really hurt when my chest hit my owner’s knee, but I still wanted to see her.  So, I tried harder to greet her, and she took me outside instead.  I howled and barked for her to come get me and play.  This all made me very sad.

One day when I tried to greet my owner at the door, she simply ignored me.  She didn’t push me or talk to me.  She didn’t even look at me.  Instead she walked right past.  I leapt towards her, but I fell to the ground instead.  What was this all about? I chased after her, barking, and she silently moved around the room.  I jumped at her, but she quickly moved causing me to fall to the ground again.  I sat there and looked up at her trying to come up with Plan B.  The strangest thing happened then: she turned to face me and pet me! My little bottom wagged with delight, and I got up to try and jump again.  She immediately moved away and stopped petting me.  Hmm? I moved close by her knee but didn’t jump.  She talked to me.  I didn’t really understand, but I think my owner now only wanted to pet me or talk to me when I sat or stood there patiently.  If I jumped, she totally ignored me, which was very frustrating, and I did not like being ignored.

The kids were the same way.  They wouldn’t play with me or anything if I jumped on them, so I started to learn that the only way anyone in my family would give me attention was if I wasn’t jumping on them.  Now if you know Labs then you know this is difficult for us, but I learned I got way more attention if I didn’t jump up.  That’s really what I want anyways.  I really like that my owner is happy to see me now because I am always so happy to see her!
