Teeth care
and bad breath
Zoey Dog
I’m smiling.
You can’t see me right
now, but trust me, all my big pearly whites are sticking
out.
I’ve caught my
reflection in the oven door, and I wanted to check out my
teeth to see what all the fuss has been
about.
Lately, my owner has been
sticking tasty paste on a small brush and rubbing it all
over my teeth.
I lick and lick and
try to catch it all, all the while she keeps telling me
to sit still and stop licking! It’s a pretty hard thing
for a girl like me to do.
She‘s been
doing this about three weeks now, ever since my last trip
to the vet.
I thought I was going
in to say hi to the doc, and instead my owner left me
there early one morning.
Next thing I
remember, I was waking up a little wobbly and
confused.
My mouth tingled a
bit, but the doc said my teeth were nice and pretty now
and my breath would smell so good.
I got excited when my
owner came to get me, and I barked out a hello to
her.
I must say that I
didn’t smell the usual cloud of odor when I
bark.
Really, I never knew
it was me that was the one smelling!
Oh, the
smell had been there a while.
At first, my family
would giggle and say I smelled.
‘You’ve got bad
breath, Zoey!’ they would squeal and push me away from
them.
Bad breath? How did
they know it was me and not them? I was quite sure it was
the littlest kid who maybe needed his diaper
changed.
Over time I noticed
people ran from me when I came to give them
kisses.
Nobody wanted me to
lick their face anymore or sit close to
them.
Was it something I
had done?
Then I went
to see the vet, and he took the smell
away.
I guess it was me
after all, and I only reluctantly now admit
that.
But, I am a dog, so I
can’t really help it all by myself.
You see, I heard the
doc explain to my owner that we dogs simply cannot take
care of our teeth.
We don’t eat bones
and things like wild canines, and we live a lot more
years than them too.
He told her that she
and the family would have to do a better job of helping
me out, or, and I gasp to think, I might loose my
teeth!
Ever since
that visit, my owner has brushed my teeth with that tasty
paste.
Kind of reminds me of
some of my dinner meals in fact.
I enjoy this time she
spends with me, even if it’s only a few
minutes.
She tries really hard
to remember to do this everyday with
me.
Plus, she
also gives me some of those hard chewing
treats.
No bones or rawhide;
the doc told her those weren’t so good for my tummy and
could make me sick, but I’m getting a lot of special
teeth biscuits and chewies.
I’m loving all of
those.
The best
part of all, you ask. Well, that would be that my
family seems to like having me back around them.
Now if there is a
smell, we know it’s not my teeth and may really be the
baby’s diaper after all.
